Over the work period of Sept 25 - Oct 15:

Following our last deadline, the team worked on a CAD design of the MMM, completed the statement of work assignment, and settled on a preliminary design for the MMM. The team met with AIAA’s leaders to discuss the preliminary design so that they could provide feedback. The team is currently ahead of schedule, which gives our team extra buffer time and works in accordance with AIAA’s schedule. Furthermore, a set lab time has been assigned to our team, this lab time does not conflict with other sub-teams.

Challenges or obstacles that the team faced:

Our team is waiting for the other sub-team designs in order to accommodate our design, this can be viewed as a challenge since our team is ahead with the design. Getting the required equations needed to support our validation is a challenging task as the team is also discussing how to create a physical validation test, which will help provide valuable data.

Team’s plan for the work period of Oct 15 - Oct 30:

Moving forward, our team will meet with Jamar Murray, who is the department’s machinist to discuss our design and ask for guidance with real execution. The next step is to finalize our CAD design with AIAA to begin the process of prototyping as we are following our project plan deadline. Our team will also meet with Dr. Dong Liu, who is the professor for the heat transfer course, and Dr. Xuemei Chen, who is the professor for the experimental methods lab course to discuss physical validation plans, these meetings will determine whether or not our team will need to build our test stands from scratch.

3D CAD Figures:

Our team created this Initial CAD design to follow our project plan. Having this design is crucial because we are able to visualize and make adjustments for our final design. We received positive feedback from AIAA's chief engineer and project manager about this initial design. As mentioned earlier, we are awaiting feedback from the machinist in order to move on with our final design and adjustments.
